The Association has established a Distinguished Alumnus Award to recognize exceptional military or civilian achievements and to inspire midshipman. To date the following Alumni have been recognized for their achievements:

Alumni eligible for recognition include graduates of UW Naval Officer commissioning program, NROTC Program participants who entered active duty military service via alternate program (Naval Academy, OCS, PLC, enlistment, etc.), former NROTC Program Staff members, and alumni who completed V-12 or other on-campus WW II Navy Program.

For military awardees, alumni must have been promoted to pay grade O-4 or above and  completed a minimum of 20 years of honorable military service. Military Awardees must also meet one or more of the following criteria: completed multiple wartime deployments to designated combat zone(s), received personal decoration(s) for or with valor, served in command, or have been chosen by unanimous vote of the UW NROTC Alumni Association Board of Directors for a career-long body of distinguished service to America .

For Civilian Awardees, alumni must hold (or have held) significant leadership position in a major organization (corporate, government, educational, or religious) or achieved major noteworthy success or award in a professional capacity or by unanimous consent of the UW NROTC Alumni Association Board of Directors for a career-long body of distinguished service to America
